Frequently Asked Questions

What are Study Credits?

Study Credits are Social Security Contributions Credits that may be awarded for eligible periods of completed full-time study. They count towards your Social Security contribution record. They are not ECTS academic credits or a cash payment.

Who is eligible for Study Credits?

DSS guidance refers to people ordinarily resident in Malta, or registrable under the Social Security Act, who complete a full-time course of studies or instruction and provide a transcript after completion.

Where can I get my academic transcript?

Check the documents you received when you completed your course. If you do not have your transcript, request one from the institution where you studied.

Which qualifications can I calculate here?

The calculator covers Lifelong Learning and MQF Levels 5, 6, 7 and 8. Use the MQF level stated on your qualification. MQF Level 5 can include Undergraduate Higher Diplomas, Diplomas, Certificates and VET Level 5 qualifications.

Does part-time study qualify?

DSS guidance refers to full-time study. If you studied part-time or had an unusual study arrangement, confirm your eligibility directly with DSS or Servizz.gov.

What if my course was shorter than one academic year?

DSS states that Study Credits are not due for courses shorter than one academic year or two academic semesters. This calculator uses whole completed academic years.

Is this an official government service?

No. This is an independent community guide, not a Government of Malta service.
